Viacom said Thursday that it has sold Harmonix, creator of the "Rock Band" videogame, to New York-based private investment firm Columbus Nova.

Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed.

Viacom president and chief executive Philippe Dauman announced plans to sell Harmonix in November, saying the company needed to focus "on what we do best -- make great branded entertainment content."

"The console games business requires an expertise and scale that we don't have so we have taken steps to sell Harmonix," Dauman said.
