Motorola won a contract to supply radios for Sweden's national public safety communication network, RAKEL.

The RAKEL, or radio communication for effective management, system has started being rolled out in Sweden's southern region and is expected to be completed throughout Sweden by 2010. The new system will make it easier for the police, fire, rescue, customs and coast guard services to communicate and work together, Motorola said.

"After undergoing a very robust evaluation process we are delighted to have been accredited by the Swedish National Rescue Agency to supply radios to users of the RAKEL network and look forward to working with the Swedish Coast Guard. This contract is another validation of our proven ability and commitment to deliver the best mission-critical communication solutions to public safety organizations around the world," said Motorola Sweden's Per Lundmark.
