"These changes resulted in a restructuring of key functions and departments across the company including the elimination of some positions and the outsourcing of others," a T-Mobile spokesman said in an email to AFP.

"Approximately 900 employees will be leaving T-Mobile as a result of the restructure," he added.

T-Mobile is the US wireless operation of , which struck a deal last year to sell the firm to AT&T for $39 billion. In mid-December AT&T abandoned the acquisition in the face of stiff opposition from US regulators.

The Financial Times reported last week that Deutsche Telekom is now considering a tie-up for T-Mobile with MetroPCS Communications, a US wireless provider.
