Phanfare today announced that users no longer need an Internet connection to use the online video- and photo-hosting service.
The latest rev of the app, Phanfare 1.29, lets users manage and edit photos and albums whether they're connected or not. Once they're hooked up to the Internet again, Phanfare will sync the changes with the users' online account. The feature looks to be similar to rival service Sharpcast's offline syncing.
This new feature would, for example, let users create an album for vacation photos on the plane ride home, and then upload the content once they got online. Phanfare can do this because while it offers unlimited storage for account holders (who pay to subscribe), it also saves lower-resolution copies of all uploaded multimedia in a folder on the user's computer.
Phanfare has also made it easier to acquire images in this update. Users can now grab images by hooking into the standard Windows dialog that pops up when you connect a camera (or USB device with images on it). This update lets you launch the app directly from the dialog.
