Kazakhstan says 435 dead seals have washed up on the Caspian coast since March 30.

The Biological Security Institute of the Kazakh Education and Science Ministry said it believes the seals may have been killed by an animal plague infection, Interfax reported Monday.

"In all, 435 dead seals, including 385 young and 50 adult species, had been found by April 15," the Kazakh Emergency Situations Ministry said.

The Kazakh Environmental Protection Ministry said last week unusual weather patterns may have been to blame for the deaths of the animals.
