National Semiconductor opened its new Power Application Design Center outside Munich Wednesday.

The facility will focus on what the California company called the "increasing need for intelligent power-supply and power-management solutions" in sectors such as telecom, automotive and medical technology.

"We want our customers to be able to concentrate on their core competencies, while we provide all the technical expertise they'll need to optimize energy-efficient power management systems," National Semiconductor Vice President John Phelps said in a statement.

The center is located at National Semi's European headquarters in Fuerstenfeldbruck and is equipped with the latest testing and measurement devices, software and circuit-board manufacturing equipment. Engineers will be working on applications for output voltages ranging from less than 1 volt up to several hundred volts.
