Canadian passenger trains are being rigged for wireless Internet access.

PointShot Wireless said Tuesday it had deployed its RailPoint service on VIA Rail's trains running in the Windsor and Quebec City corridor, giving Canadian commuters seamless access to the Internet, e-mail and instant messaging.

The service works with 802.11-capable laptops and with PDAs and other mobile devices as well.

PointShot said the deployment with the Canadian national passenger railroad is the first in North America, and they have other deployments in the planning stages in North America and Europe as well.
