Semiconductor Energy Laboratory Co, Ltd said it has succeeded in forming a CPU and running it on a plastic substrate for the first time in the world.
Since it is on a plastic substrate, the prototype CPU can be bent. It is powered by +3.3V and has an operating frequency range of 13MHz. The laboratory says the CPU was realized by transcribing onto the plastic substrate a low-temperature p-Si TFT.

The laboratory plans to introduce the details of this CPU at the "2004 Symposia on VLSI Technology," an international conference on semiconductor technology to be held from June 15-17, 2004 in Hawaii.
