Ericsson launched the commercial use of its mobile broadband service HSDPA to Vodafone's German subscribers Thursday.

The service will initially be available in the German cities of Hanover, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf and Munich. The plan is to cover more than 70 percent of the country.

The HSDPA plan will allow more data to be transmitted on mobile lines, in addition to faster speed.

"HSDPA will enhance the end-user experience to both consumer and enterprise users through higher data speeds and everywhere coverage," Jef Keustermans, president of Ericsson Northern Europe, said in a news release.
