Study says businesses can create clean energy jobs

(AP) -- The organizers of a global business summit on climate change say millions of new jobs would be created in the U.S. alone by relying almost entirely on renewable or low-carbon sources of electricity.

The Copenhagen Council study says the U.S. would gain 2 million if its use grew by just half of 1 percent a year and a quarter of all its electricity came from wind energy and other clean sources.

EU Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso says similar investments could produce a million new jobs in Europe since "change also brings big economic opportunities."

Barroso spoke at the second day a summit where CEOs of major world businesses are focusing on how to help politicians negotiate a new U.N.-administered global climate treaty in Copenhagen in December to succeed the Kyoto treaty that expires in 2012.
