"What’s next? 30 hours? 36 hours?" director of product management Hunter Walk said in a blog post.

"A day's worth of content uploaded to YouTube every minute is a big achievement for our community and speaks to the role video plays in connecting and changing the world one upload at a time," Walker said.

Google-owned YouTube announced in May that 20 hours of video were being uploaded to the site every minute, up from 15 hours in January.

In mid-2007, six hours of video were being uploaded to YouTube every minute, according to the site.

bought YouTube in 2006 for 1.65 billion dollars but the Mountain View, California-based Internet search and advertising giant has not yet managed to turn a profit with the site despite its massive global popularity.

YouTube has been gradually adding professional content such as full-length and movies to its vast trove of amateur video offerings in a bid to attract advertisers.
