I/O Magic offers 40 GB portable hard drive

Southern California's I/O Magic has launched a 40 Gigabyte portable hard drive for use with desktop and laptop personal computers.

The 2.5-inch Data to Go device carries a $100 suggested retail price and provides enough storage for large quantities of personal photos, music and video games as well as other documents and company data used by business travelers.

"It offers the additional storage space needed for mobile consumers," Chief Executive Officer Tony Shahbaz said in a news release Wednesday.

I/O Magic said Data to Go requires no external power supply and operates on a high-speed USB 2.0 connection. It is compatible with Windows XP/2000/ME, and its transfer rate maxes at 480 megabits per second.
