In Brief: CT&T files suit against Alltel Corp.

June 6, 2006

CellularVision Technology & Telecommunications announced Monday it filed suit June 2 against wireless provider Alltel Corp.

The suit from CT&T, a unit of Speedus Corp., addresses "technologies now used by Alltel to transmit television to wireless users over cellular networks and the simultaneous transmission of analog and digital signals within the same bandwidth," according to Speedus.

"Based on our research we have identified infringements of two of our patents by Alltel and we are asking them to cease and desist from these infringements in their network services," said Speedus Chief Executive Officer Shant Hovnanian. "We are also aware of reciprocal roaming agreements that Alltel has in place with Verizon Wireless, against whom we filed similar actions on May 12. These reciprocal agreements have increased the scope of unauthorized usage of our technology."

The two separate complaints were filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Speedus says Alltel infringed on two of its patents, 5,949,793 and 4,747,160.
