In Brief: Malaysia WiMax spectrum bids stumble
Malaysia's telecom sector remained in a lurch Wednesday following the cancellation of the nation's first wireless broadband licensing tender.
The bidding process involving 2.3 Gigahertz WiMax spectrum was scrubbed the day before by the government, which said it would discuss the move in the near future.
Some Malaysia media said the cancellation apparently had to do with problems with the technical specifications included in the bids.
Peter Tham of NasionCom, one of three companies that submitted bids, said his company was disappointed but hopeful the process tender would be held at a later date.
"Naturally, we are disappointed but we respect the decision," Tham told the Malaysia Star.
