Image: Snow-bound Italy

Feb 14, 2012
Captured by Envisat’s MERIS instrument on 13 February, this image shows an unusual view of Italy: almost all of the country is covered with snow. Credits: ESA

ESA’s Envisat satellite has captured some unusual views of Italy after much the country suffered heavy snowfall a for second time in a week.

Practically the whole of the north and central parts of the country are covered with snow, including the low-lying Po River valley. Snow is, of course, common during the winter in northern and Alpine areas, but last week regions such as Tuscany and Lazio further south have been dealing with heavy falls – causing significant disruption.

This image was captured by Envisat’s MERIS instrument at 09:30 GMT on 13 February 2012.

I give it 24 hours before some media head blames global warming.

I see that it has been less than 24 hours since denialist Xbw started whining about the weather.

I wonder if Xbw is a paid shill for the Heartland Institute.

If not, then he is a loser in more ways than the obvious.

It's a satelite photo..the headline desribes the photo. Your links show a picture of bikes with snow on them, a ski resort and 4 small J-pegs of summer somewhere....put the cap back on the glue dude.

Additional water vapor from global warming and mix in winter, and "Bamb!" heavy snow. What ever freakish weather is causing the amazing cold spell in Europe, and the dry warm spell in North America, also .. "Bamb" global warmin.

Glue... good one.
