Spotify to launch in US, but CEO won't say when

(AP) -- Streaming music service Spotify will launch in the U.S., but its CEO won't say when.

Spotify and co-founder Daniel Ek says the problem is partly that Spotify is not just a technology company that needs to build and release its product. It also has to make complex deals with recording companies. When it launches, it will cost $10 a month in the U.S.

The London-based service is available in the U.K. and several other European countries. The free service comes with ads and gives users access to 20 hours of music monthly. Its , which carries no ads, allows unlimited listening and the ability to download songs to their phone.

Ek spoke Tuesday at the D: Dive Into Mobile tech conference Tuesday hosted by tech blog AllThingsD.
