Briefs: Wireless aid for Beijing Olympic visitors

November 10, 2005

Wireless technology will help visitors get around Beijing during the 2008 Olympics.

Cityguide is under development by Hong Kong software company Capinfo and will provide folks in Beijing with wireless maps and language guides that can be downloaded on to cell phones and other mobile devices.

The broadband system is also capable of playing back phrases in Mandarin to help with taxis and hotels, according to Computing.

Capinfo is already undergoing field trials and will be deployed in other major Chinese cities after the Games.
