VSNL launches global Ethernet network

VSNL Singapore announced Thursday the launch of a private-line Ethernet service that will connect major cities on three continents.

Dedicated Global Ethernet is designed as a scalable solution that will allow companies in Asia, Europe and North America to expand their local area networks to accommodate upgraded voice, video and data services.

"Ethernet over the wide area network is a rapidly growing connection of choice for metro and national WAN implementations," said VSNL International President Vinod Kumar. "Dedicated Global Ethernet provides the benefits of the Ethernet WAN (Wide Area Network) to enterprises and carriers, but on a global scale."

The service offers flexible bandwidth speeds between 2 and 1,000 Megabits per second that can be upgraded on an as-needed basis without service interruption, VSNL said in a news release. The service is carrier over fiber-optic infrastructure in India and other locations.
