Shuttle Xing: Endeavour treks through LA streets
The shuttle Endeavour is rolling again early Saturday after an hourslong delay as crews prepared it to cross over a major Los Angeles interstate overpass.
The shuttle began a journey early Friday being towed slowly through the streets of Los Angeles to a museum where it will go on permanent display.
Friday evening its stopped as crews spent hours transferring the shuttle to a special, lighter towing dolly. Then around midnight, it began the trip over a bridge across Interstate 405, one of the trickiest parts of its complicated journey.
The shuttle was pulled across the Manchester Boulevard bridge by a Toyota Tacoma pickup, and the car company filmed the event for a commercial after paying for a permit, turning then entire scene into a movie set complete with special lighting, sound and staging.
Crews preparing for the crossing had to take down power lines, leaving about 400 residents of surrounding Inglewood without power for what was expected to be several hours.
