In Brief: China Mobile said cutting Beijing rates

China Mobile was reportedly planning Monday to lower wireless calling charges for the Beijing area.

The Xinhua news agency said the reduction in both incoming and outgoing rates would take effect later this month and comes on the heels of China Unicom's decision to trim its Beijing rates.

Wireless rates were under government control until earlier this year, when competition for customers was introduced.

Beijing has some of the highest wireless rates in China at 0.6 yuan (7.5 cents); the size of China Mobile's price cut was not revealed.
