Google on Monday said that it has bought smartphone photo backup and sharing platform Odysee to beef up picture-handling capabilities at its online social network.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Odysee team will put its skills to work at Google+ social network, and those using the app have until February 23 to download photos or videos being kept at the service.

"Odysee's vision was to be the easiest way for everyone to capture unlimited memories and access them everywhere," a message at the website said.

"We are very excited to join Google."

Odysee applications tailored for powered by Apple or Android software automatically back up photos to computers and also let users share images with chosen groups of people.

Google+ has wooed users with enhanced photo features such as "auto awesome" that automatically enhances images.
