EU launches new app for passengers' rights

(AP) — The European Union says it has launched a new smartphone application which allows air and rail passengers stranded in the EU due to cancellations or delays to immediately check on their legal rights regarding rebates and compensation.

The EU said in a statement Wednesday that new application Your Passenger Rights covers air and rail transport and works on four mobile platforms: iPhone and iPad, Google Android, RIM Blackberry and Microsoft Windows Phone 7.

The also provides information on who to complain to if rights are suspected to have been disrespected.

Under EU rules, if a flight is cancelled may be entitled to significant compensation. Refunds may also be in order if luggage is damaged, a package holiday hotel is not as advertised, or a train time is changed.
