Internet outage delays American flights at JFK

(AP) -- American Airlines says an Internet outage shut down its reservation system at New York's Kennedy airport and delayed flights for about an hour.

Airline spokesman Ed Martelle says an Internet line broke about a mile from the John F. Kennedy International Airport on Tuesday morning. That disrupted the used to check in passengers. Martelle doesn't know the cause of the break.

Service was restored by noon. Martelle says the outage affected only a few flights and there were no cancellations.

is JFK's third-biggest tenant after Delta and JetBlue. It handles nearly 8 million passengers at the each year.

The airline, a unit of AMR Corp., is based in Fort Worth, Texas.
