Alcatel-Lucent announces Internet contract in China

French-US telecom equipment maker Alcatel-Lucent said on Wednesday it had been chosen by mobile operators China Mobile and China Telecom to install a fiber optic network in China enabling high-speed Internet access.
The network will be installed in 14 of China's 22 provinces for China Mobile and in more than 18 provinces for China Telecom, Alcatel-Lucent said.
The value of the contract, won by Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, was not disclosed.
The company said the contract would enable the two Chinese operators to offer a range of high-speed services such as high-definition television.
