MySpace on Monday began synchronizing user status updates with wildly popular microblogging service Twitter.

The News Corp-owned online service said it is rolling out a test version of software that lets its US members stream real-time comments to MySpace and Twitter.

"Your status update is a quick way to tell friends what you?re up to, or in to," MySpace senior product manager Sharon Nguyen said in a message at the firm's website.

"Our new sync functionality is part of an ongoing effort to make it simple for people to share their status beyond MySpace."

Any US user can opt-in to have updates created on MySpace appear in Twitter feeds and updates simultaneously fed to MySpace pages, according to Nguyen.

Online social networking pioneer MySpace has been eclipsed by market leader , while Twitter's popularity has been rocketing and the microblogging service claims more than 300 million members.
