Under the shakeup, schools would require students to have a good understanding of blogging, podcasts, and , the paper said.

The proposed changes would cover children at primary schools -- responsible for state education for the under 11s.

Twitter is a service that allows people to stay connected by exchanging .

The outline plans were condemned by John Bangs of the National Union of Teachers, who told the paper: "It seems to be about trends on the one hand, then political pressure on the other hand."

Britain's Schools Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
