In Brief: LG could lose S. Korea 3G wireless license

South Korea's No. 3 wireless company could lose its 3G license as early as next week due to its alleged failure to comply with its commitment to launch on time.

The Korea Times predicted Friday that the move by the Ministry of Information and Communication could cost LG Telecom CEO Nam Yong his job.

LG was supposed to roll out its 3G (third-generation) wireless network last month in the 2 Gigahertz (GHz) bandwidth; however, Nam said the company opted instead to upgrade its 1.8 GHz network. The Times said no reason was given for the surprising decision.

The ministry is expected to deal with the matter of LG's partially paid license fee after it takes action on the license itself.
