NASA awards innovative research contract

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has awarded a $36 million research contract to the U.S. National Institute of Aerospace Associates.

The Hampton, Va., institute was selected to conduct cutting edge aerospace and atmospheric research, develop new technologies and help prepare the next generation of scientists and engineers, NASA said.

The NIAA consists of eight entities: Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Virginia State University, the University of Virginia, Hampton University, North Carolina State University, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, the University of Maryland and the Georgia Institute of Technology.
