Software solution for overseas wireless

Boston software developer MobileSphere has unveiled a product it says will smooth out international long-distance capabilities for mobile phones.

The CarrierILD solution uses softswitch technology and global Tier 1 networking to fully integrate international calling capabilities into their subscriber rate plans.

Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) have been grappling with ways to offer competitive international calling rates to their subscribers, and MobileSphere sees CarrierILD as a breakthrough. MVNOs typically use air time purchased from major wireless carriers, which MobileSphere says have discouraged MVNOs from reselling long-distance time due to fraud and bad debt concerns.

"CarrierILD addresses the two significant issues facing wireless carriers today -- price and fraud control," said MobileSphere Vice President Gavin Macomber. Adding that CarrierILD is "the industry's first plug-and-play ILD offer for MVNOs and wireless carriers."
