Briefs: BellSouth to cut 1,500 management posts

BellSouth said it will reduce the number of those in management positions by 1,500.

The company said most of the cuts will be through voluntary severance packages and should be completed by April 30 as it seeks to cut costs in a highly competitive market. Reductions will take place in supervisory and non-supervisory management positions, including staff support functions.

The cuts will cost the company $95 million, of which $50 million will be accounted for in the fourth quarter of this year, BellSouth said.
