Turtle monitoring in Australia funded

A turtle monitoring program for flatback turtle rookeries at Port Hedland, Australia, has been funded by the government.

The western Australian government's Coastwest program will fund the Care for Hedland Environmental Association and the Town of Port Hedland for the Cemetery Beach turtle monitoring program, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported Friday.

The project also includes the fencing of the rookery along the beach to restrict access to vehicles and to determine if access via designated walkways should be restricted.
