IIJ releases quarantine for corporate PCs

Internet Initiative Japan has come up with a product that will automatically detect and quarantine network computers vulnerable to viruses.

IIJ said Tuesday its Quarantine Network Solution would protect corporate networks by blocking access by computers that don't have up-to-date security patches and firewalls.

The company said the Blaster worms of 2003 caused heavy damage to corporate networks and raised the need to clamp down on individual computers that have security shortfalls.

Quarantine Network Solutions runs a continuous scan of the terminals hooked up to a corporate Local Area Network and inspects security software for any shortcomings. The product comes in a version that focuses on gateways for companies with numerous office locations, and another designed for a dedicated quarantine server installed on the company premises.

IIJ said the monthly fee for the service includes a command center with an engineer on duty around the clock.
