France Telecom pushes for copper line DSL

France Telecom said Tuesday high-definition television can be received over copper lines.

The French telecommunications giant said increased bandwidth capabilities and compressions techniques have allowed high-speed data transmission using standard telephone cables.

In a news release, the company said that it "has worked with international DSL standardization bodies from the outset, and has evaluated the various technologies in its labs."
