WiMax Forum certifications expected

WiMAX

The WiMax Forum hasn't confirmed or denied reports that the first certifications for products will be unveiled next month.

The industry association issued a statement Friday that took note of the reports and then reminded delegates to get their room reservations in for the Jan. 17-20 Wireless Communications Association conference in San Jose.

"A prediction that the WiMax Forum will make a landmark announcement at WCA's convention next month is among many positive developments in recent days," the statement said.

The buzz was generated by IDG New Service's report that certification would be announced for three products meeting the Forum's 802.16-2004 standard.

The products reportedly use the 3.5 gigahertz radio spectrum, which can be licensed for commercial services outside the United States.
