Briefs: Yak offers free VoIP calling worldwide
Yak Communications Wednesday launched a free Voice over Internet Protocol calling service for its subscribers.
YakForFree offers unlimited calling among members of the service, which debuts next month at a cost of $20 per month. The service is expected to be particularly popular in the various immigrant communities of the United States and Canada where residents are eager to maintain regular contact with family back in their homelands.
For Yak, the move is part of a strategy to become a global Internet communications provider.
"YakForFree will further demonstrate the quality and value of our VoIP capabilities and is expected to assist Yak transition from a legacy telephony company ... into a next generation Internet based communications and commerce company," stated Yak President David Hurwitz.
