Briefs: India reviews rule on telecom expatriates

India is reviewing provisions in its foreign direct investment rules that currently bar foreigners from top jobs in the telecom sector.

The current FDI rules prohibiting expatriates from acting as CEOs and other high-level executives have come under fire from Indian companies that insist they need greater flexibility in hiring top talent or already had foreigners on the job when the FDI rules were issued last November.

Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath told Press Trust India Tuesday that the review was focused on whether or not the FDI rules applied retroactively.
