German scientist arrested in Brazil for fraud

(AP)—Brazilian police say they have arrested a German scientist wanted in a multimillion-dollar fraud scheme in his home country.

Federal police said Wednesday that 58-year-old Hartmut Muller was arrested the day before in the southern Brazilian town of Florianopolis, where he had been hiding out since the beginning of the year.

An Interpol agent in confirms the arrest was made on an order from the international agency.

Federal police say Muller is wanted for defrauding unnamed Germany companies out of $5.2 million for saying he'd develop for online banking.

Police say they'll hold Muller until a ruling is made on his extradition.
