In Brief: Softbank head wants to head Vodafone Japan

Softbank's head said he would like to be the chief executive of Vodafone himself, according to a local daily Friday.

Last month the Japanese software giant bought out Vodafone Japan as the British mobile carrier retreated from the market after several years of disappointing financial performance.

At an information-technology committee meeting of the Liberal Democratic Party, Masayoshi Son answered questions from party members on his company's plans for the mobile telecommunications market, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported.

Son told lawmakers that he would like to replace all fixed lines with optic fibers.
