MP3-player sales seen surging

Sales of portable digital music players will soar over the next four years, an industry research group said Thursday.

In a report on the MP3 market, IDC said that sales will increase to 945.5 million units for a sales value of around $145.4 billion in 2009, up from 224.9 million units worth $46.7 billion in 2004.

The surge in sales will bolster global demand for flash memory chips, the group said.
