Cingular, Sierra ink 3G wireless-card deal
Sierra Wireless announced an agreement to supply laptop wireless cards for Cingular's 3G network in the United States.
The Canadian company said it would begin shipping its AirCard 860 wide area network (WAN) devices to Cingular in the coming fourth quarter.
"With the AirCard 860 and Cingular's new HSDPA (high-speed data packet access) network, mobile professionals will be able to work on wireless as effectively as they do from the office or from home, with access to email and online applications at broadband speeds," Sierra Wireless Vice President Dan Schieler said in a company statement.
The AirCard 860 runs on an 850-1900 Megahertz band with data rates of 400-700 kilobits per second and roaming capability on bands outside the United States. Sierra Wireless said Cingular had data roaming agreements in 90 countries.
