In Brief: Opal 10 GB Ethernet upgrade in U.K. ready

Opal Telecom's upgraded 10 Gigabit Ethernet network in Great Britain went operational this week.

Fibernet Group said in a release that its $4 million deal with Opal resulted in increased capacity that will allow Opal to accommodate its "TalkTalk" Local Loop Unbundling deployment.

The service, based on the Huawei Technologies Optics Dense Wave Division Multiplexing platform, allows Opal to link its three main sites at Irlam, Birmingham and Brentford.

"Our recent national network upgrades were specifically designed to help broadband-focused service providers deal with the massive growth in traffic driven by rapid customer acquisition and the concurrent emergence of triple play services and ADSL2-plus technologies," Fibernet Chief Executive Officer Charles McGregor said in a news release.
