India WiMax research center opens
India's first research center for broadband and WiMax technology was inaugurated Friday in the city of Chennai.
The C-Dot Alcatel Research Center's first job will be assisting the development of the 801-16E standard for WiMax technology and solutions for WiMax service in rural areas.
The center is 49-percent owned by C-Dot (Centre for Development of Telematics) while French telecom company Alcatel holds a 51-percent stake.
The Hindu Business Times said officials at the dedication predicted the center would turn a profit within five years.
