Briefs: ICANN Internet conference opens in N.Z.

Mar 27, 2006

The details of running the World Wide Web as well as the Internet's future will be on the table this week when ICANN holds its annual meeting in New Zealand.

The Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers runs the address system for the Internet and will be focused this week on issues such as Top Level Domain names and the rise of denial-of-service attacks on the Domain Name System.

Denial-of-service attacks on ICANN's root server could cause an undermining of the entire Internet domain system, according to ICANN Chief Executive Paul Twomey.
