Malay phone maker said teaming with Saudi
A Malaysian telephone manufacturer is reportedly ready to join a Saudi Arabian firm in a mobile-phone manufacturing deal.
The New Straits Times said Monday that M Mobile was close to signing a contract with Saudi Arabia Television Jeddah (SATJed) in which M Mobile would assist in the production of cell phones to be sold in the West Asia market.
Sources told the newspaper that SATJed would sell branded phones produced at a plant to be established in Jeddah later this year.
The first phone to be marketed, the source said, will be launched in February. Its features will include an alarm to alert Muslim owners to prayer time and an indicator pointing to the direction of Mecca.
