New drive to adopt Linux in mobile phones

A leader in the Linux software field has launched a drive to accelerate the adoption of Linux in mobile-phone technologies.

Open Source Development Lab in Oregon Monday announced its Mobile Linux Initiative, a move the organization said was aimed at maximizing commercial opportunities for Linux-based mobile devices.

Linux boosters are confident that the booming mobile market has room for the operating system that is already gaining acceptance from manufacturers due to what Lab CEO Stuart Cohen called "its unmatched interoperability to deliver new capabilities in advanced handsets."
