Japan cos cut back on large plasma screens

Japan's plasma-display manufacturers are cutting back on production of the product for personal computers, a local daily said Monday.

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported that companies such as Mitsubishi Electric and Hitachi are instead devoting more resources to manufacturing screens for mobile phones and other small products.

The Nikkei also reported that Mitsubishi will be withdrawing from the computer-monitor business altogether by 2008.
