Briefs: Bird flu vaccine efficacy to be tested

Researchers at four U.S. universities are starting a clinical trial to test varying strengths of a vaccine designed to fight avian influenza.

The multicenter trial will test a modified form of an investigational bird flu vaccine to determine whether the vaccine triggers a strong immune response at lower doses.

The 7-month trial is sponsored by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of Health.

Participating in the study are the University of Maryland, the University of Rochester, Baylor College of Medicine and the Duke University Medical Center.
