The Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) team has been selected for the Alexa Prize Socialbot Grand Challenge 3, an international university contest for conversational AI developers.

The challenge goal is to create advanced dialogue agents, or "socialbots," for Amazon Alexa that will converse with users on popular topics and current events. The Alexa Prize committee selected 10 teams from over 375 applications from universities in 15 countries. Among other participants are teams from Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon University, etc.

The MIPT team is named DREAM. Its members are Ph.D. students from the Institute and researchers from its Neural Networks And Deep Learning Lab engaged in the project iPavlov, which creates leading conversational AI solutions in Russia. The team's lineup is: Yury Kuratov, Dilyara Baymurzina, Nikolay Bushkov, Idris Yusupov, Dmitry Karpov, and The Anh Le.

Each participating team will receive a $250,000 research grant and access to other Amazon resources. The contestants will begin their journey with a boot camp in Seattle in August. The teams will then start building their agents in September, and the winner will be announced in May 2020.
