Qualcomm has 1 GHz mobile processor

November 9, 2005 in /

Qualcomm plans to announce next year what it plans to do with a new mobile microprocessor that has a full gigahertz of capacity.

The Scorpion processor is seen as ushering in a new generation of cell phones that will be closely tied to consumer electronics. Specific details will be released in 2006.

Qualcomm says the Scorpion can give mobile devices computing power comparable to a personal computer.

Specifically, the device uses 65 nanometer low-power, low-leakage technology to help optimize power consumption and allow wireless-device batteries to last longer.
