Ultra-sensitive nanothermometer under ambient conditions

Nanoscale temperature measurement with high sensitivity is important to investigating many phenomena such as heat dissipation of nano-/micro-electronics, chemical reactions in nanoliter volume, thermoplasmonics of nanoparticles, ...

When Fock meets Landau: Topology in atom-photon interactions

Since the discovery of the quantum Hall effect, topological phases of electrons have become a major research area in condensed matter physics. Many topological phases are predicted in lattices with specific engineering of ...

Sapphires show their true colors: Not water-loving

In 1805, Thomas Young studied the mechanical equilibrium at the solid/liquid/gas three-phase contact line (the balance of forces acting on the contact line formed by the intersection of the liquid-gas interface and the solid ...

Helium, a little atom for big physics

Helium atom precision measurements and calculations have a history of nearly a century. In the 1960s, theorists discovered that the fine-structure split (23P0-23P2) of the 23P energy level of helium is the best atomic system ...
